What we love about Lexington Rescue Mission

This week marks Citygate Network’s annual convention in Lexington, Kentucky.

There’s a lot to appreciate about Lexington. It’s a beautiful city with lovely people, and the surrounding countryside is gorgeous.

But we at Delia Martín are especially fond of Lexington Rescue Mission.

I have thoroughly enjoyed serving Lexington Rescue Mission since it began in 2001. In fact, I remember meeting with Jim Connell, the Mission’s founder, in an empty warehouse that had just been purchased to serve guests.

That initial meeting began a long and fruitful partnership with Jim and his daughter, Laura, who was then serving as director of development.

With Laura now at the helm, Lexington Rescue Mission has continued to grow rapidly and has undertaken a variety of innovative ways to care for people in need.

Laura and the team there take a proactive approach to rescue people off the street through their Street Outreach Team. They also launched an aggressive capital campaign to establish a new Outreach Center that will allow them (and various partner organizations that they’ll host) to address their guests’ whole needs – physical, medical, mental, and spiritual.

They provide transitional housing and support services for men and women who are working to overcome substance abuse. Their Jobs For Life program provides outstanding employment assistance to people who are seeking to re-enter the job market.

And, of course, the Mission excels at advancing the Kingdom through pastoral care, chapel services, Bible studies, and residential programs.

What they do perfectly encapsulates the life-changing work of Rescue.

That’s why we’re so pleased that they are being honored as this year’s host Mission!

We’re privileged to partner with them, along with other ministries that are doing God’s work, and doing it with innovation, creativity, and compassion.

And even as we at Delia Martín celebrate them, we also celebrate YOUR Mission. Thank you for all the wonderful things YOU do to care for the neediest people in your community and for sharing Christ’s love with a lost and dying world.

God bless you!

P.S. If you happen to be attending this year’s conference in Lexington, be sure to stop by our booth (#111) and say hello!
